#87 mogwai – yes! i am a long way from home

yes, i was indeed a long way from home last night when i decided to walk. haven’t done that in a while, and this time round, i had mogwai‘s debut album young team with me as my companion, at times gently guiding my every step, and at other moments yelling in my ear and grabbing me by the neck, refusing to let go. it’s funny how the first taste of the band is read out to you at the start of the opening track, taken from a concert preview someone had written: if someone said that mogwai are the stars, i would not object. if stars had a sound, it would sound like this. that’s also how i remember them two years ago at the esplanade when they opened with this exact song as well, blistering and glowingly unafraid, and when they concluded the set with a continuous blast of noise that seemed to last forever.
