There is an almost instinctive rustic quality to the folk songs of The Tallest Man 0n Earth that I always found appealing about the Swedish songwriter Kristian Matsson, something that is perhaps more discernable when you are far away from home and living in the fringes of loneliness. On “Troubles Will Be Gone” from his most recent album The Wild Hunt (2010), Matsson eulogizes the proud highway and the pursuit of phantoms on the road with hopeful conviction. His dreamy lyrical flourish also evokes the cold and strangelookingness of an outstretched nowhere — tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow. – Keith.
