#42 fleet foxes – he doesn’t know why

i would ordinarily opt to present new music over stuff i’ve featured before, but listening to the fleet foxes‘ debut album (thanks debs for the cd!) for the umpteenth time this evening meant that i couldn’t help but slip in another fleet foxes track. “he doesn’t know why” uses a deceptively simply melody that arrests you immediately – it’s a tune you’re sure you’ve heard before, but you can’t quite put a finger to. such vagueness and uncertainty in memory is something explored in the song as well, a problem of understanding wrestled with and finally let go of in both surrender and resignation. it’s a perplexed sigh that reverberates through your mind long after the last piano keys are played and the microphone is dropped in tentative finality.
