#12 dennis wilson – thoughts of you

as i listened to dennis wilson‘s “thoughts of you”, taken off the newly reissued 1977 album pacific ocean blue, i couldn’t help recalling the first time i heard wilco‘s “reservations”, a song that on hindsight must have been influenced by wilson in more ways than one. with a voice much more weathered than his brother brian‘s, dennis strings together a delicate love song that begins and ends with his tender piano playing, but which swells in the middle with a hauntingly vulnerable cry on the transience of life, an arresting moment that fades away just as fleetingly.
